RAC'n'Dyke :)

Last week Mr. Julian Dyke was in Istanbul at OraTurk education center for a two day seminar on Oracle Real Application Clusters(RAC) technology, we know him from his Oracle internal presentations on his web site and his book Pro Oracle Database 10g RAC on Linux: Installation, Administration, and Performance (Expert's Voice in Oracle) with Mr.Steve Shaw.

This week Mr. Jonathan Lewis will be in Istanbul for a two day seminar. He is one of our heroes as I mentioned before , so I hope he loves Istanbul as much as Julian did.

It was a pleasure to meet and chat with Julian, he is really one of the most knowledgeable Oracle consultants all around the world. His Fast Track to RAC seminar was useful for me, lots of best practices mentioned.

Also last week I joined two new challenging projects, first one is an extremely loaded OLTP database application design, expected load is ~2400 transactions per second. Here I am thinking on using Oracle Advanced Queue(AQ) and started to research on best practices of AQ. And using Oracle TimesTen in-memory database with Cache Connect option is another choise.

Second project is something I always wanted to research on, for the last 10 years I always worked on OLTP application projects and always admired OLAP systems since the data they are working and their challenges are something I want to experience with my database knowledge. This time some great opportunity came up, my company over 30 million customers and some hundreds of services are going through a data warehouse re engineering project:) Lots of data, lots of challenge and I started immediately to study the Business Intelligence(BIS) concepts and Oracle's answers to them on their Oracle® Database Data Warehousing Guide 10g Release 2 (10.2)

Previous week we celebrated my 30th birthday, my first cake cut on my Oracle tuning class at Turkcell Akademi, the class prepared a surprise for me and it was very special:) 2007 will be a though year for me, and I hope not to loose my health and enjoy these unique opportunities.

Kolay gelsin...
